Shen Screen

The shen ring was a coiled rope often carried by Horus as a symbol of protection. The word ‘shen’ means to encircle, meaning the shen ring provided eternal protection. Layers of thin gold leaf to give texture and light reflecting qualities to the Shen screen. Gold leaf was a common nishing technique in Ancient Egypt. Gold was believed to offer protection. The circular shape of the Shen screen evokes the circular rope.
